A4 flyer printing

An A4 sheet measures 210 × 297 mm, the size of standard letter paper. Among flyer sizes, it is the one for text that needs room: a garage's price list, a farm shop's product sheet, the annual programme of the local Samaritan association, the menu on the table of a village inn, the municipality's waste collection calendar or a notice from the property manager to tenants.

You can open the configurator at A4 and order from 10 copies. It starts with 90 g matt coated paper: fine for a sheet that is read once, too light for a menu that sits on the table every day. Paper by use: read, filled in or pinned up

With A4, what matters most is what happens to the sheet. The larger the surface, the sooner thin paper creases when someone holds it by a corner, passes it around or pins it to a noticeboard for months.

Uncoated white offset takes pen and pencil well, which makes it the paper for any form. For a price list or a programme, it is worth comparing the price of the Budget version of coated paper, available at 130, 170 and 250 g. And if the origin of the paper matters to you, recycled matt coated paper comes in 130 and 300 g, also FSC®, while many weights are available in PEFC quality.

Laying out a long text

People do not skim an A4 flyer, they read it. It therefore needs a structure that guides the eye: two columns rather than lines across the full width, short subheadings, prices in a separate right-aligned column, and the key facts (date, venue, contact or QR code) grouped in one block that readers find straight away. A programme covering several months reads better split month by month than as continuous text.

Set up the document at the final size of 210 × 297 mm; a full-page photo needs 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 dpi, not counting bleed. Notice, form, table menu: printed sides and surface

A notice in a stairwell or on the municipal noticeboard only needs one side: with 4/0, the front is printed in four colours (CMYK) and the back stays white. A price list or programme makes use of 4/4, full colour on both sides, which doubles the space, for example with the programme on the front and the registration slip on the back. If both sides carry large areas of colour, choose a slightly heavier paper so nothing shows through. The configurator also offers a print option with varnish.

As for the surface, a form stays unfinished: a ballpoint pen struggles on lamination and gloss varnish. A menu or a price list on the counter, on the other hand, is handled every day; matt lamination on both sides or a matt water-based protective varnish on both sides protects it from wear. A product sheet with photos gains impact from glossy UV varnish, front only or both sides.

Flat in a C4 envelope or folded?

Unfolded, an A4 flyer fits into a C4 envelope, ideal for a document people keep, such as the invitation to an annual general meeting with the agenda. If the sheet should arrive folded, that is a different product, which you will find among our flyers and leaflets. Folded twice, an A4 sheet gives almost exactly the DL size.
